2001
Roots trace back to the support of Reunity, formerly the Pan-African Women's Philanthropy Network.
2011
Dr. Jacqueline Copeland founded Black Philanthropy Month, launching globally with its first official summit — commemorating the United Nations International Year and Decade for People of African Descent.
2024
Dr. Copeland named Floyd Jones as Global Chair, opening a bold new chapter for the movement.
2025 - today
Stewarded by BackBlack, the movement has mobilized over $11.5M to Black-led organizations and continues to expand its global footprint.

It was founded by Dr. Jackie Bouvier Copeland and belongs to the many organizations and people who celebrate it. Day-to-day operations are managed by BackBlack, with Floyd Jones serving as Global Chair.

We believe in and encourage year-round investment — Black communities deserve more than a month of attention, and real, systemic change takes sustained commitment all year.
